David Beckham reacts to emotional King Charles meeting

David Beckham was formally knighted by King Charles at Windsor Castle on November 4, receiving recognition for his services to sport and charity, as the 50-year-old England captain described the occasion as deeply emotional.
The investiture recognized his decades-long contribution to soccer and humanitarian work as King Charles presided over the ceremony, which included Beckham‘s parents, Ted Beckham and Sandra West.
Beckham has extended his influence beyond the field. He played a key role in London securing the 2012 Olympics and has worked with UNICEF since 2005, with a fund established in his name in 2015 to mark a decade of collaboration.
“It’s been a very emotional week,” Beckham told PEOPLE. “I wasn’t nervous, just emotional, as it means so much to me and my family.
“It was a very special day, and a memory I’ll cherish for the rest of my life.”
He also became an ambassador for King Charles‘ foundation in 2024, supporting education programs and environmental initiatives designed to improve youth engagement with nature and community projects across the United Kingdom.
Beckham highlighted his respect for the monarchy and previously queued for over 12 hours to pay respects to Queen Elizabeth II lying in state in 2022 after her death at Balmoral in Scotland.
“People know how patriotic I am – I love my country,” Beckham said. “I’ve always said how important the monarchy is to my family.
